The Linden District

This has been the craziest transfer call yet! If you receive a call on Friday then you know you are being asked to be a leader. At 9:12 we got a call from President Stone. We immediately thought we are going to be trio training, but that was not so. Surprisingly Elder Ledbetter is leaving to Jasper to be with Elder Acosta (He was my MTC companion, love that guy)!!! Then the moment of truth happened, I was asked to be the district leader. Right after Elder Doman! I hope that I can match up to the great DL he was. Now the best district in the mission is the Linden district. Another crazy fact, I am receiving Elder Benich as my companion!! He is from Utah and our mom's have a mutual friend.  They have wanted us to be companions since we found out we were serving in Nashville Tennessee!!  Our mom's must have been praying hard! We both have the first name Conner, although he spells is Connor, and Elder Ledbetter trained him, so this transfer call is so weird. Oh, and the awesomeness doesn't stop there, we are getting a 2017 Tacoma!!! I am absolutely losing my mind! I have been praying for a four wheel drive car and we got the best truck on the planet (At home I drove a Tacoma)! Man, I am just so excited for this transfer, it will be the best yet!

So you think this week could get any better? It does! We have 2 baptismal dates and 2 more in progress! That could be 4 this month! Our recent convert has been doing good at showing Christ like example for his family. The two on date are his parents and the other two are his nephew and best friend. They love the church and the lessons have been going well. Please pray for them because it is so hard for them to come to church. When a date is set, the advisory tries his hardest to make it not happen so we need the extra help. Funny thing is, we started to talk about the Book of Mormon because Jerry's (recent convert) dad loves native Americans.

Other highlight of the week is Ledbetter and I finally figured out how to jive with each other and now he is getting transferred... Ha! I guess that is how it works. We also watched the annual mission broadcast. The big change was the schedule but we also now only have four key indicators. Those are the goals we set and try to achieve throughout the week. The four are baptize & confirm, baptismal dates, church attendance (investigators), and new investigators. President Stone was all ready working with us on the time switch up so that part didn't change much for me. I love being apart of a church that has modern revelation. We learned line upon line, precept upon precept to further better ourselves and the work. The heavens are opened and the Lord is hastening his work. Being out here I have really learned that the second coming is literally just around the corner. Mark 13 :35-37 no one knows when it will be but "it is better to prepare and prevent than it is to repair and repent" - President Benson.

That is all this week folks. Stay tuned for next week! Have an blessed week!
P.S. Happy birthday to uncle Pat and aunt Brooke! Y'all are the best!

Getting into the Arean

We had zone conference this Tuesday and it was the best one yet! First off our car didn't win the golden hubcap award, probably because a deer smashed us and our tires are wearing out, but I though it looked pretty good. I am going to be asking for a car that has 4 wheel drive because we got stuck in the mud the other night when it rained. Plus, we mostly drive on backwoods and taking a Ford Fusion off-roading isn't good for the car I don't think. Anyways, we got a training on our culture as a mission. He used Theodore Roosevelt's quote and it struck me that I have to rededicate my efforts and get muddy and bloody in the ring. It is easy to become complacent in the huge area but I am rededicate. That is why I love zone conference so much!

We got the new schedule as well. For you returned missionaries this is what has changed. The morning isn't structured anymore. We choose when to do personal study, workout, get ready, and all the other stuff. We have from 6:30 to 10:00 to do those things. Lunch is 30 minutes and companion study is 30 minutes sometime during the day. There is no more planning at nights, we get to do that in the morning. Short answer, we get more sleep! Shoot! Pday now starts at 8 am and goes until 6pm so that was awesome! This new schedule if pretty sick!!!

No real crazy stories this week, but some updates that have been cool. President Trump is now in office and the people here love that! I probably found the greatest song in the world called "the chick-fil-a song" by Jonny Diaz (mom you will love it)! I had fried ice cream for the first time and chocolate gravy. It pretty much just tastes like hot cocoa with biscuits. Our recent convert Jerry is on fire! He has brought one friend to church and we are teaching his family! That is like 4 baptisms right there! His friend said it was the first church where he didn't feel judged for being there .... thank you! I have not heard anything on transfers but we will get the call this weekend. There is rumor there will be a lot of changes this
transfer! I am so excited!

We did have a super spiritual lesson during a dinner appointment. We have started just reading out of the pamphlets (they work so well)! The spirit prompted me to ask a question and all the testimonies of the Holy Ghost started pouring out. I have learned that I am a sympathy crier so once the waterworks started I started. Ha! It was so Awesome!

Anyways, that is the week! Sorry it wasn't to thrilling but it happens sometimes. Have a blessed week and I love y'all! Oh! I am trying to really get southern sayings down but my favorite so far is, "fight like the third monkey at Noahs Ark and it's fixin to rain!"

Persecutions May Range

So this week was one for the books! Well, especially this weekend.

Friday we got snowed in... ok so snowed in here is like 2" of snow. School was canceled, businesses were shut down, and people ran to the store to buy eggs, milk, bread, and toilet paper because it is the end of the world! Haha I laughed so hard when I heard and saw all of this. The problem is that no one knows how to handle the snow around here. The roads are super bad and the ice is just everywhere because of the humidity. We sat in our house and played some games. We tried to go teach but no one would answer the door. It was absolutely nuts.

We have been teaching this guy for a while now and he had a baptismal date and everything. We texted him and he didn't respond. We thought that was very odd so we decided to walk to his house in the frigid cold to see him. It was like 3 degrees outside and snow on the sides of the road. We got to his house, knocked, no answer.  We saw his car parked in his drive way so we couldn't figure out why he wasn't answering the door?  Where was he? We decide to give him a call because he might be sleeping. His mom answers the phone. We got to asking where he might be and she told us that he is in jail! What jail? We were so confused???  It turns out that he had been on parole for a while and he broke it one morning. She wouldn't tell us how he broke it or why he was on parole in the first place but we were super shocked. Most of the time when we teach people the gospel they change their life for the better. He must have been reading the BoM but not applying it.

Another crazy thing this weekend was we were able to teach Jerry's parents! His parents were afraid of us because they have met missionaries before and they have heard some crazy things. Ok, missionaries that are reading this, do not be a diver. Divers are those who dive in the deepest of trenches in the gospel. It's so important to build on their knowledge and not tell them everything you know about it. Anyways, we corrected the problem and taught the first lesson. They loved it! It is so cool teaching a recent converts family!!!

Sunday was equally weird. Church was normal but after church is when the fun began. We went and taught these two men who might as well have been scribes of the Bible. These two guys know the Bible by memory. Ok, maybe not literally, but they did know it very well. Not only that but they also know the history of it very well. It is possible to teach directly out of the Bible but it isn't as clear as the Book of Mormon. One is willing to read the Book of Mormon and study it while the other wants it only from the Bible. They want us to show them logically. It is possible but very hard because most of the Bible's verses on the plan of salvation are pretty vague. Like take for example the Garden of Eden and The Fall 2 Nephi 2 and Genisus 3. Together you can learn so much! But when it is just form the Bible you have to infer stuff. Anyways, my knowledge of the Bible has increased ten fold since serving here in the belt. I can now effectively Bible bash but that no ever actually helps. Just makes me feel good though! ;)

Two more crazy things. Jerry got a visit from a mob. Well not an actual mob, but if they had pitchforks and fire it would be. His old church keeps harassing him and saying that he is going to hell because he is now a Mormon. We are actually getting pretty nervous because if they see us in the streets in Parsons we are unsure as to what what will happen. We have to be careful now when going over there. It is just so crazy how I know now a little bit what it feels like to be prosecuted for your beliefs. We get told crap like we are Satan worshipers and we are going to Hell. We even have people who pray with us right there and ask God to save our souls and to open our eyes to the evil that we preach. Man it is down right crazy. Some reason though it gets me amped. Like I get all pumped and even more conviction in the work. I have realized that the more true something is the more Satan will harden the hearts of men and fight it.

One last thing, I killed Bambi's girlfriend.... ok, maybe she didn't die, but got a good beating. We were driving home from Clifton and I saw this deer out of no where. Everything went in slow motion and I felt like a line backer trying to tackle. The deer leaped out to cross the road. I swerved and it barely miss the front right of our car. The deer snakes into the side of the car and roles off. We got out and examined the damage. In my mind I was thinking, "Crap there goes my driving privileges." The damage was actually very minor. Only 4 dents that were about the size of my knuckle. We went back to see the deer and she was gone. We survived our first deer attack and maybe the deer did too!

That raps up my crazy weekend. Have a blessed week y'all!
